This is the first mosaic in the series that started from a self-made photo. The idea was to show Snow White as an older person. 6 of the 7 dwarves have died and instead of being surrounded by all sorts of cute animals, there is only this annoying fly. For me it is about growing old, the decline that we all experience as we get older, something that I never really thought about as a child, the fact that older people have more difficulty moving because they are in pain. Going gray and wrinkles are not so bad, but the physical discomforts are. It is also about saying goodbye and those who are left behind. It is a bit humorous but also feels as if I sympathize with these characters. The gnawed apple refers to the fairy tale but also to a part of life that has already passed.
