‘Project Sterrenweide’ is a project I worked on at the Rillaar academy.
These stars are made for the ‘Star Children’, children who are born prematurely and who die and are therefore not allowed to be named according to Belgian law. A place will therefore be provided in the cemetery where these 11 stars will form a half arch at the entrance of the cemetery.
Together with the students of 2 classes we made the mosaics on mosaic paper.
Due to a number of problems, we were not able to cement the mosaics until a year later. Leaving an indirect mosaic in place for this long is not ideal, so necessary repairs had to be made before and during cementation. This is not a job for 1 person. Fortunately, I found Marzia Truant willing to come and help me. It took us about a week to place all the mosaics in a hollowed out stone.
