In his post to the MAHB Blog, Environment, Art and Us photographer Martin Stupich shares examples of earthworks that he feels are examples of “ego trumping creativity” and unfortunately cause landscapes to become causalities instead of inspirations.

Using Stupich as an example let’s turn the lens around: How can the arts can better consider, share, and yet not alter the wild places and subjects they feature?

Is it enough to say that you are bringing attention to the destruction of a landscape through your art yet continue with actions that contribute the continued destruction?

These are by no means questions limited to artists, rather they are questions everyone lending their skills and voice to pushing for change are confronted with when they operate within existing systems. Are there ways to break free?
