I support this consensus statement 100%.
I see this as (at last!) being something like “the common hymn sheet that all environmentally concerned NGOs and environmentally concerned people all over the world should be singing to” – instead of continually  banging on their own individual drums more or less in isolation; and  thereby achieving a lot less than they quite obviously could collectively, by forming up into a powerful united front. United we stand divided we fall. If we can get as many as possible of  the major NGOs in the world (and most of their members) signed up to this – then  we might actually get something done about the awful mess we have gotten ourselves into on this poor planet. Even a million signatures from individual citizens will be nowhere near as powerful and influential without the  support of hundreds of Environmental NGOs – will they ? Of course, we will need support from all the  “green” Businesses we can get on board too. Logically, that ought to  include any truly green political parties as well. My leading, deliberately  provocative, question to every potential signatory is this: If these NGOs, their members, and seriously environmentally concerned citizens, cannot be seen to agree on a single common consensus like this amongst the very few of themselves – how on earth can they ever expect to persuade governments and world leaders and 7 billion people to follow their individual, fragmented, often contradictory and confusing, and frequently self centered leads on a myriad of separate environmental problems and solutions? I hope to see considerable comment on this proposition.
